What field jobs cost in the United States

Each job below is taken apart into equipment, parts, labour hours, permit and disposal — then priced for every metro area where the government publishes a wage.

Every total on this site is arithmetic you can check. Parts come from listings we link. Labour comes from BLS wage data multiplied by a factor we publish. Nothing is behind a login and nothing is a lead form in disguise.

Pick a job

Why this exists

Search any of these jobs and you get a number with no arithmetic behind it. A range, a national average, an invitation to "get matched with a pro". None of it tells you whether the quote in your hand is reasonable.

The inputs are all public. Wages are published every year by the Bureau of Labor Statistics for hundreds of metro areas. Equipment prices are on retailer websites. Permit fees are in municipal fee schedules. What is missing is somebody putting them together and showing the working.

So that is what this is. If a number is wrong, tell us and we will change it and say when.

Labour rates by trade

If you want the wage data on its own, without a job attached to it, that lives in the labour rate section — eight trades across 49 metro areas.
